The Colomadu sugar factory now resembles a neglected scrap warehouse. The giant mill for grinding sugarcane no longer operates. Some of its components have been moved to other factories.
Built in 1861, this complex is surrounded by offices, storehouses and a meeting hall with old European architecture. The area inside where the rows of buildings are standing, spans across 13 hectares and is protected by a fort. Housing for factory officials and employees lies outdoors. The only house within the fort complex is the grand official residence of the factory administrator.
