During the month of Ramadan, from 8 to 10 in the morning, the living room and the porch of KH Muhammad Ahmad Sahal Mahfudz's home is filled with santri (students) and a few members of the nearby village community, to take part in the morning Qur'an reading session led by Kiai Sahal. This has become a tradition at the pesantren (Islamic boarding school), during Ramadan month.
Close to 400 people attend this special, fasting-month event. This year, the scripture of choice is Minhajul 'Abidin, by Imam Ghozali.
