IN early 2005, I began using a motorbike to get to work and get things done. After seven years of riding, I feel that something is not right with my body. I often cough, my chest hurts, my breath is short, I suffer from headaches and my eyes are sore.
I thought that my pains were caused by prolonged exposure to the black smoke from bajaj and public buses. I attempted to search for information from various sources. To my surprise, I learned that Jakarta has been ranked third in the world in terms of most air-polluted city from 2005 to 2011, right after Mexico City and Bangkok. Air pollution has become a serious threat to the city of Jakarta. The WHO even said that Jakarta's air quality is well on the minimal threshold of air quality standard.
