THE government, through the Public Works Ministry, will finance a research prior to the feasibility study of constructing the Sunda Straight Bridge. Earlier, the research was to be conducted by a private company, PT Graha Banten Lampung Sejahtera. However this plan became a polemic since there is a 10 percent privilege rights added to the tender cost for those performed the study.
Later, the cost of constructing the bridge connecting Java and Sumatra will be borne by the private company who wins the tender. The government will not withdraw funds from state treasury to finance this project estimated to be about Rp225 trillion. This huge cost includes the development of a strategic zone in Banten and Lampung.
