A project focused on extensive coral reef restoration in Buleleng, North Bali, recently received the 2012 Equator Prize from the United Nations for its achievements to inject lift into the reef colony, and its works to boost the tourism industry in Buleleng. The Karang Lestari foundation, which began its project in Pemuteran, has turned the bay into a top tourist hotspot in Buleleng a region which at one time had virtually no planned tourism strategies in place in the 90s particularly for snorkelling holidays.
